Homes in the Outerlands contain clothing, tools and supplies mixed with belongings left during the Turning. Some rooms are nearly intact. Others have water damage, broken floors or inactive servos among the furniture. Lancers search these buildings because ordinary household items still have buyers in the city, provided they can be brought back in usable condition.
A dry cupboard can preserve goods that are ruined elsewhere in the same house. A working closure, complete set of fittings or undamaged container can make an ordinary find worth taking. Carrying space is limited, so Lancers choose what they can sell or use themselves.
These places also hold photographs and records of the people who lived there. An empty home doesn't explain what happened to its occupants. Some fled, some died during the collapse of essential services and others may still live beyond local communication. The material left behind can help rebuild the city without answering what became of the family who owned it.
