The Tower is an unfinished signal installation and the city's shared symbol. One taller copper center represents the individual, with two ivory supports for cooperation and control. Many Corpos want it to reconnect the city through Orbinet. Many Lancers want it used to keep outside transmissions away. Building the tower has not settled the argument over who it should connect or exclude.

What the Tower stands for

The tower consumes labor, components and power that could serve immediate needs elsewhere. Supporters of reconnection justify that investment through contact with survivors, access to knowledge and the possibility of wider trade. The equipment needed to make that service work is still being assembled.

Lancers proposing a signal barrier want local decisions protected from outside influence. That proposal is also unfinished, with its practical protection still unproven. The structure's symbolism includes both positions. Cooperation means working with others; control means retaining agency over one's own life. The copper center places the individual above either approach rather than assigning the tower to one faction.

A Lancer and Corpo debate an agreement while a woman holds a family photograph between them, with the unfinished tower outside.
