The city's engineers are working toward restoring a surviving Orbinet cluster. They study old records and present observations while assembling compatible ground equipment. The aim is to coordinate enough orbital infrastructure to provide a useful connection again. That could allow isolated communities to exchange messages and information, but the project has not yet restored a global service.
Orbinet combined communication links with computing resources in orbit. Understanding what survived matters as much as assembling a powerful ground installation. A recovered terminal or visible satellite is only one piece of the system.
Engineers compare archived information with what they can observe and test locally. Their work supports the reconnection proposal for the Tower. If it succeeds, communities could begin comparing records, finding survivors and arranging wider trade. Those possibilities explain the investment, while the risks of renewed centralization explain the opposition. Restoring a connection would still leave people deciding how much of their lives to place on it.
