The delay failed, and the base's servos started attacking before Divinity's operatives could leave. Their order was to destroy other servos and energized equipment. Security machines fought each other while other units damaged the facility's electrical systems. The operatives were caught inside the destruction they had intended to begin after their escape.

There was no second command that changed the targets to human beings. The same electrical-target order caused the attack inside the base and the catastrophe that followed elsewhere. People in the facility faced gunfire between machines, falling equipment, fire and damage to the building around them.

Destroying the base was the intended result. Losing control of the timing and the spread was not. As the attack continued, the communications system had already carried copies of the order outside the facility. Shutting down one room could no longer remove every copy that had left it.
