Synth conversion removes the entire broadcast assembly from a recovered servo and restores local operation. The hostile programming is removed, and a sealed panel with a physical service socket replaces the old box and peg. The converted robot becomes an independent synth responsible for its actions. It can accept work, own equipment or decline an offer.

How conversion works

Changing a status light would not remove the Old World's control system. The hardware itself comes off, so there is no dormant receiver waiting to reconnect. That separation still matters if the city eventually restores global communications through Orbinet.

The body may retain marks from its previous work and recovery. Its tools and local capabilities can remain useful, but its relationship to other people changes. Future service requires a physical visit and the synth's involvement. Independence does not remove faults or the need for maintenance. It means the individual takes part in those decisions rather than receiving instructions from a distant fleet operator.
