The Longview R4 is a rifle commonly carried by Lancers in the Outerlands. Its olive body, ivory inserts and compact optic distinguish the model. A rifle gives a Lancer an option when approaching a servo for intact recovery would be too dangerous. Damage can reduce the eventual payment, but the highest possible return is not always worth the risk.
The rifle is part of a much larger set of equipment and expenses. A Lancer still needs food, clothing, transport and enough carrying capacity for the return load. Service at the Armory can delay a departure, especially if a recovered optic or other component needs separate attention.
Lancers choose between possible outcomes rather than treating every encounter as a bounty. An intact robot may support conversion. A damaged one may only provide parts. A site may contain nothing worth the transport cost at all. The R4 helps an individual deal with those uncertain conditions, but the decision about whether to accept or continue a job remains theirs.
