The Latch L1 is a salvaged Old World safety lance used to disable servos through their control assembly. It has a yellow shaft, orange grip and short forked contact head. When active, a small energy bridge forms between the tips. Lancers value it because a successful shutdown can preserve a robot that would otherwise be damaged in a fight.
The tool was made for people who needed a physical way to stop a machine that wasn't responding as expected. Its compatibility with the old service contact is why it remains useful after the Turning. It does not project a long blade or beam.
A completed contact can latch the control unit into shutdown beyond a trap's brief interruption. The robot is still an unconverted servo, with its broadcast hardware attached. Assessment and conversion happen later at SynthWorks. A working Latch therefore offers a better recovery possibility without removing the danger, the transport problem or the cost of restoring what comes back.
