Servos are the connected robots made by SERVO in the Old World. Most civilian models share a humanoid frame, with tools and protective equipment chosen for the job. Their upper-back broadcast assembly received network instructions and updates. Infected survivors still carry the Turning's order to destroy powered equipment and other robots. Converted independent robots are called synths.
The common body made the platform practical in buildings already designed around people. A servo could use ordinary doors, carry objects between rooms and accept different working attachments. Household, medical and retail units shared much of their structure even when the work looked very different.
The shared control system was also the route through which the Servo Virus spread. A surviving machine can keep following its stored order without a working internet. Its light indicates a current state, but a dark light doesn't prove permanent shutdown. The physical distinction is the broadcast assembly: an old servo retains it; an independent synth has had the entire assembly removed.
