Military Rangers carried the same destructive order as civilian servos, with far greater strength and endurance. At military installations, they attacked generators, communications equipment and other robots. Security servos fired on the Rangers in return. The fighting destroyed systems that would otherwise have supported emergency response, transport and repairs outside the base.
The Ranger's heavy frame had been built to operate where ordinary machines could not. During the Turning, that capability made it difficult to stop damage once an attack began. A generator housing or vehicle offered little protection from a machine designed for demanding military work.
The people in those installations were endangered by the fighting and the destruction around them. Humans were not part of the target instruction. Surviving Rangers retained that same order after losing their network connection, which is why an isolated military site can remain dangerous long after the rest of its equipment has stopped working.
