A synth working with a Lancer crew faces the same old servos as its human partners. Infected machines can target its powered body even when no working installation is nearby. Lancers may have to defend the synth and abandon an intact recovery opportunity. The value of a contract doesn't remove their responsibility to the people who accepted it with them.

An independent synth can bring knowledge or physical capability that makes a recovery possible. It also needs room on the vehicle, access to service and a plan for the same uncertain conditions facing the rest of the crew.

A hostile servo doesn't recognize the partnership or the synth's new independence. That makes the distinction between old networked machines and converted individuals practical during an encounter. The crew has to protect each other while deciding what material can still be recovered. Coming back with a lower-value load may be the result they can reasonably achieve together.
